Q5. Can I encrypt a folder in a removable disk?

Yes.

Q6. What will happen to the encrypted folders if the system is reinstalled or ghosted?

After the system is reinstalled or ghosted, the encrypted files in other partitions remain encrypted, and hold the original password. They can be decrypted after you reinstall this program. (To prevent any possible accidents, we suggest you to decrypt those encrypted folders before performing any special operations.)

Q7. Can those Flash-Encrypted folders be copied away by others?

No. The folder (in fact a file) left after a Flash Encryption is about 1 KB in size. The data of the encrypted folder itself is fixed in its own partition. So even if this 1 KB file is copied away by other people, your encrypted data is still safely kept. Therefore, a Flash-Encrypted folder cannot be moved. However, if you really want to move a folder, you are suggested to use the Portable Encryption function on the folder. Another way is to decrypt the folder before moving.

Q8. Can an encrypted folder or file be moved to another computer with a USB disk?

Q9. If this program is uninstalled or deleted by some other people, will my encrypted folder be decrypted?

Q10. Will the encryption on the folders fail in safe mode?

No. It will not fail in safe mode, in MS-DOS mode or even in a dual system!

Q11. What if I forget the password?

Please fix the password firmly in your mind! If you forget the password for Flash Encryption and Hidden Encryption, there is a password restore function in the full version to help you. Encrypted data cannot be decrypted otherwise.

Q14. Wrong password prompt

There could be two cases:

Flash- and Hiding- Encrypted folders: If you are sure the password you have entered is correct, now enter 123456. If you can open or decrypt the file successfully with 12345, this means the encrypted file is damaged. This is because the default password for damaged files is 123456. However, if you still get wrong a password prompt when you enter 123456, it is absolutely sure that the password you have entered before you enter this 123456 is a wrong one.

If the encryption method is not Flash Encryption or Hiding Encryption and you get a wrong password prompt, it is absolutely because you have just entered a wrong password.

The administrator password and encryption passwords are all case sensitive. Many wrong password errors are actually wrong case errors. So make sure to enter each character in your password in the proper case.

If you really forget the password for a Flash-Encrypted or Hiding Encrypted folder, the password can be restored if you are a full version user. However, we cannot help you if the files and folders are encrypted via methods other than Flash-Encryption and Hiding Encryption.

Q16. When opening a Flash-Encrypted folder, I am prompted that “encrypted data was not found” or “Hiding-Encrypted folder was not found”

Causes could be:

a) The encrypted folder has been moved.

You may have moved the folder at encrypted state to another partition or another location in the same partition.

Flash Encryption is delete-proof, copy-proof and move-proof by itself. So even if you have “moved” a Flash-Encrypted folder, what you have moved is only an index file. The real encrypted folder is still in the original location.

So you will receive such a prompt if you move a Flash-Encrypted folder to another partition. In this case, you only need to open Best Folder Encryptor, select the encryption record and decrypt it. If you format the original partition, however, your data will be lost.

If you move an encrypted folder to another location in the same partition, you can still handle it as usual. However, when you decrypt it, you will find the folder is decrypted to the original location where it is encrypted.

b) The file system format of the partition where the folder was encrypted has been changed.

Flash Encryption and Hiding Encryption are performed based on the file system format of the partition where the target folder locates. If you convert the file system format of this partition, when you try to open a Flash-Encrypted folder, you will see prompts such as “encrypted data not found” or “Hiding-Encrypted folder not found”. This can be solved by converting the file system format to the original one, or you can solve it with the First Aid Center feature of the full version.

It is dangerous to convert a partition’s file system format. If you really need to do this, please decrypt Flash-Encrypted folders and Hiding-Encrypted folders on this partition BEFORE you do it.

c) Incompatible software versions.

This usually appears when your data is encrypted with a very old version of the software, and you upgrade the software directly from that to the latest version. Recent versions, however, are compatible with each other. If it is really such a situation, you can either reinstall the old version with which you encrypted the data, or you can get help from the full version’s First Aid Center.

d) Disk damaged.

Disk damage can cause an encrypted folder to be lost. Besides, Windows ScanDisk can recover damaged data into CHK files and save them in the found.000 folder in the root directory of the drive. In the second case, data can be recovered by a CHK recovery tool.

These are all the 4 possible causes for this problem. There could be no other reasons.

Note that some users may take data that has already been decrypted as still encrypted data. You may think you have done nothing, but an encrypted folder is just missing. Please check carefully whether it has already been decrypted.

Besides, due to the special nature of Flash Encryption and Hiding Encryption, which are for folders only, you are suggested to decrypt all folders encrypted by these two methods BEFORE reinstalling or restoring the system.

Q17. The use of First Aid Center

First, please set a running password (administrator password) for the software in its Settings window. Then right-click in the encryption record list in the main window and select First Aid Center, enter the software’s administrator password in the dialog box that pops up and click OK to enter the First Aid Center. Now, select the partition where the Flash-Encrypted folders or Hiding Encrypted folders locate and click Start Search. Select the folders found and click the Encrypt Folder button. Now the Flash- and Hiding-Encrypted folders will be decrypted.

Q18. I am prompted with a file system exception when decrypting an encrypted file or Full-Encrypted folder

a) Encrypted file: The problem is usually caused by a file of the same name that exists in the current location. You can move the file to be decrypted to another location and decrypt it there.

b) Full-Encrypted folder: It’s usually caused by a wrong password. You can enter the folder and decrypt the files one by one to check whether the password is wrong. Otherwise, there is a file or there are files with the same name.
